About NBL
Welcome to the New Braunfels Lefties. This is a progressive thought site that could lean really left depending on who is talking at the time. We make no bones about it. We are looking to throw out some nonconservative blather in a very conservative region.
A concept born out of discussion, this is a project for two guys who like to blather their opinion. New Braunfels, TX is a very conservative area and there are not many resources to discuss progressive ideas. On top of that, there are not many resources for local reviews, happenings or music. The local radio station is great, but focuses only on local music. Our goal is to throw in some politics, philosophy, religion, news and entertainment reviews.
What do we have in store? Keep an ear out for discussions on Nirvana, Quentin Tarantino, tea baggers, comparative religion, local food reviews, coffee, booze, tons of politics and even a sprinkling of corporate environment philosophy. There is a good chance a guest or two will be stopping by too, although I doubt we can get Rick Perry to visit so don’t hold your breath.
This is an opinion podcast! We have no real sponsors other than a couple of Google ads (something has to pay the bills as we get more traffic) so any mention of a person, business or other group is just us yacking and is not endorsed by anyone or thing. If we mention you though and you want to send us free stuff, we won’t send it back. Oh and these opinions are not a reflection of our employers or anyone else for that matter.
We are looking for feedback future topics or comments on our sessions!
Who are these guys?
Mike – resident literature and music geek
The most left of the pair, Mike is a die hard music geek who wants everyone to know his opinion. Along with this love of music and the musical form comes deep understanding of literature and film noir. Look for his take on literature, politics, religion, philosophy and whether The Killers are an actual rock band.
He enjoys coffee, guitar, gardening, and cats with odd names.
Matt – resident techno-geek
Although more rational than Mike, Matt is pretty left leaning too. He is seriously into local New Braunfels issues and events and will get Mike’s opinion on what’s up around town. Matt is also the foodie in the group and will discuss great food in the area along with wine and spirits as needed. His focus will be on art, food, beer, politics, technology and religion and likes long walks in the park.

Hello there,
I’m pleased to have found you two. Having moved to New Braunfels less than a year ago it is a relief to know I am not the sole Progressive in town.

Moving to NB from Austin in a couple of months. After 35 years on THE Texas isle of progressive thought we never expected we could want to live in any other Texas town, then we discovered New Braunfels.
NB is beautiful, and doesn’t strike us as being nearly as conservative as most places, your blog is further evidence .
Looking forward to reading more.

Matt, I love the part of your bio that says you’re “more rational than Mike”–gave me an image of Mike ranting, perhaps? Seriously, I listened to your mailbag podcast yesterday (a little late, I know), and really enjoyed it. We need more shows!
